Defence Innovations Unveiled: The 2027 Indo Defence Showcase in Malaysia

Indo Defence 2027 Expo & Forum: A Catalyst for Defence Innovation

As Indonesia’s premier tri-service defence event, the Indo Defence Expo & Forum is set to unite top-tier defence industry leaders, government officials, and military strategists. This event aims to bolster strategic collaborations and drive innovation within the rapidly evolving defence sector. With a firm commitment to enhancing the national defence ecosystem, Indo Defence offers an unparalleled platform for partnerships, exploration of cutting-edge technologies, and proactive responses to the dynamic challenges in global defence.

The Asian defence sector is witnessing an era of heightened investment and transformation, presenting numerous opportunities for collaboration and engagement. Recent data from the International Institute for Strategic Studies indicates that defence procurement and research and development (R&D) spending in key Southeast Asian nations, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, rose by nearly USD 2.7 billion between 2022 and 2024, totaling approximately USD 10.5 billion. This growth underscores a shift toward more significant investments and advanced capabilities, along with an emphasis on bolstering national defence industries via international partnerships, technology transfers, and local production, facilitating extensive strategic collaboration opportunities throughout the region.

This upward trajectory in defence spending heralds substantial opportunities for industry interaction. The Indo Defence 2027 Expo & Forum is enhancing its international engagement with active participation at the Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference (DSA), scheduled for April 20–23, 2026. The team will network with potential exhibitors, partners, and delegates to showcase the latest developments and highlight opportunities for involvement in its 11th edition.

The Indo Defence 2027 Expo & Forum promises a comprehensive program featuring expert seminars, industry forums, and technical presentations that will tackle pivotal challenges and explore opportunities within the defence industry. In addition, the exhibition will include product displays and demonstrations, giving attendees insight into the latest innovations shaping the sector. The forthcoming edition aims to significantly scale up its efforts by hosting 1,000 exhibitors from 60 countries, including 35 international country pavilions, and is expected to draw around 47,000 visitors.

To fortify its role in supporting national defence capability development, the exhibition will introduce two dedicated pavilions aimed at promoting collaboration within Indonesia’s defence ecosystem. The Innovation Zone, developed in partnership with the Defence Technology Agency, will facilitate the downstreaming and commercialisation of national defence research, enhance collaboration between research institutions and industry players, and showcase emerging defence technology firms. Complementary to this, the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Zone, in cooperation with the Defence Maintenance Agency, will highlight Indonesia’s national MRO capabilities while fostering engagement with international partners and technical collaborators, thus supporting the nation’s broader ambitions to strengthen its regional influence in the defence maintenance sector.

The Indo Defence Expo, which also includes the Indo Aerospace and Indo Marine Expo & Forum, is scheduled for May 12–15, 2027, at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE), PIK 2, Tangerang, Indonesia. As Indonesia’s Official Tri-Service Defence, Aerospace, Maritime, and Security Event, this exhibition will gather global industry leaders, technology providers, government representatives, and key defence stakeholders to explore collaborative ventures and contribute to the evolution of defence industries across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
