Bangladesh Navy Welcomes Its Inaugural Do228 After Successful Overhaul

General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH (GA-ATS) has successfully completed the comprehensive overhaul of a Do228 aircraft for the Bangladesh Navy, marking a significant milestone in their partnership. This procedure was finalized at the end of January 2026 and signifies the first step in an MRO contract established in 2025. A second Do228 overhaul is slated for later this year.

Base Maintenance: A Step Toward Strengthening Partnerships

For more than a decade, the Bangladesh Navy has operated a fleet of Do228 aircraft dedicated to maritime patrol and special mission operations, currently consisting of four aircraft. As part of the ongoing maintenance contract, two of these aircraft are receiving base maintenance services at GA-ATS’s state-of-the-art facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. The initial aircraft has now been successfully refurbished and is back in Bangladesh, officially handed over to the customer.

The extensive maintenance work involved a thorough 72-month full-cycle scheduled inspection and a critical 12-year structural significant item evaluation, ensuring long-term operational safety and readiness for the aircraft.

Training and Knowledge Transfer

Throughout the maintenance process, a specialized team from the Bangladesh Navy was on-site at the GA-ATS facility. They observed the overhaul operations closely, gaining direct insights from the Do228 OEM specialists. This hands-on training proved invaluable, enhancing their knowledge of the aircraft systems and maintenance protocols. The knowledge transfer was not only appreciated but also pivotal in bolstering the operational capabilities of the Bangladesh Navy’s aviation personnel.

Ongoing MRO for Additional Do228 Aircraft

The MRO initiatives will continue with an additional Do228 from the Bangladesh Navy anticipated to arrive at Oberpfaffenhofen later this year for similar maintenance procedures.

This ongoing project significantly upgrades the Bangladesh Navy’s Do228 fleet, enhancing its operational capabilities and ensuring its readiness for future missions.
