Sikorsky Unveils Enhanced BLACK HAWK® Helicopter Kits for Expanded Operational Focus
Sikorsky, part of Lockheed Martin, has unveiled its latest Armed Black Hawk helicopter kits, significantly enhancing the versatility of this reliable rotorcraft. These innovative kits enable the Black Hawk to perform various missions such as airmobile assault, close support, medical evacuation, ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance), and tactical lift—all within a single, battle-tested airframe. This advancement provides commanders with increased operational flexibility and reduces the need for multiple types of aircraft.
“With the new Armed Black Hawk kits, warfighters gain access to a versatile platform capable of performing a multitude of missions,” explains Rich Benton, Sikorsky’s Vice President and General Manager. “These upgraded kits exemplify our dedication to offering 21st Century Security solutions that ensure unmatched performance and lifecycle savings, equipping soldiers with the dependable capabilities essential for success both now and in the future.”
Key Benefits of the Armed Black Hawk Kits:
- Multirole Functionality: A cohesive fleet provides assault, transport, and support capabilities, minimizing acquisition and maintenance costs.
- Production-Ready Options: Operators have the choice between two production-ready kits for either close support or precision strike missions, allowing for immediate integration or future upgrades through modular armament wings.
- Quick Reconfiguration: The new kits facilitate three-hour mission reconfigurations, enabling rapid adjustments to mission roles.
- Exceptional Cost-Effectiveness: A unified fleet solution supported by a robust supply chain ensures notable lifecycle savings in both maintenance and training, extending Black Hawk operations beyond 2070.
The Armed Black Hawk kits are available through Foreign Military Sales (FMS) or Direct Commercial Sales (DCS), enabling seamless integration into FMS fleets supported by Lockheed Martin in the U.S., or via direct commercial sales offered by PZL Mielec in Poland.
With extensive experience in operating an armed Black Hawk fleet across the Middle East, Sikorsky is ideally equipped to deliver cutting-edge kits for future missions. The Black Hawk helicopter remains a leader in multi-mission performance within medium-lift operations, providing modern and cost-effective solutions for current and future requirements. Its adaptability for extended ranges and challenging environments further enhances mission effectiveness for 21st Century Security® initiatives.
The Black Hawk helicopter is a continuously improving platform. Each upgrade since the introduction of the “M” model in 2006 has built upon valuable lessons learned from demanding missions. Sikorsky is accelerating its evolution by installing high-output engines, integrating advanced digital architecture, and introducing autonomy systems to ensure safe and efficient operation under the most challenging conditions.
