Introducing the Next Generation: Meet the MV-75 Cheyenne II Long-Range Strike Aircraft!
Bell Textron Inc., a subsidiary of Textron Inc., proudly announces that the U.S. Army has officially designated the MV-75 as the Cheyenne II. This name honors the rich heritage of the Cheyenne Tribes, which includes the Northern Cheyenne Tribe in Montana and the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes in Oklahoma, in alignment with the Army’s tradition of commemorating Native American nations.
Initially revealed in 2025, the Mission Design Series (MDS) MV-75 signifies a multi-mission vertical takeoff aircraft. The “MV” indicates this versatility, while “75” celebrates the U.S. Army’s founding year of 1775. Thus, the Cheyenne II not only pays homage to the Army’s origins but also to the lasting legacy of the Cheyenne people.
“Naming the MV-75 Cheyenne II is a tribute to the enduring contributions of the Cheyenne people to our Nation,” stated COL Jeffrey Poquette, Project Manager, FLRAA. “The name reflects the bold vision of the AH-56 Cheyenne, while ‘II’ symbolizes a new era of innovation in military capability. It embodies the indomitable warrior spirit and marks a significant advancement in Army aviation.”
The Cheyenne have historically showcased exceptional adaptability and resilience in the face of adversity. As they relocated due to external pressures and threats, they honed new skills and reorganized their tribes, demonstrating remarkable agility in dynamic conditions.
The MV-75 Cheyenne II mirrors these attributes. With its impressive speed, range, lethality, and versatile multi-mission capabilities, the Cheyenne II offers commanders swift options to project combat power while minimizing risks in contested spaces. Its Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) ensures the platform can adapt to evolving battlefield demands, making it a formidable addition to modern military operations.
The Cheyenne warriors cultivated a strong ethos characterized by courage, discipline, and a relentless commitment to safeguarding their people. Celebrated for their strength and endurance, they faced harsh environments with unwavering resolve. The MV-75 Cheyenne II enhances the Army’s lethality, providing commanders with enhanced tactical options to overpower adversaries. Its endurance allows engagements at significant distances beyond current rotorcraft capabilities.
The MV-75 symbolizes unity between two warrior groups—the U.S. Army and the Cheyenne Tribes. Both share a legacy of skill, confidence, and dedication to their missions. The MV-75 Cheyenne II is set to become a cornerstone in the Army’s long-range air assault operations.
“Bell is honored that the MV-75 carries the name of the Cheyenne Tribes as we innovate Army Aviation. The Cheyenne heritage perfectly embodies the capabilities that the MV-75 will bring to future military challenges,” stated Ryan Ehinger, senior vice president & program director, FLRAA, Bell. “This milestone coincides with our acceleration in assembly and production, ensuring that we deliver the MV-75 capabilities to our warfighters expeditiously.”
Bell and the Army are on track as they progress toward delivering the first test aircraft. The official naming signifies a shared dedication to introducing this vital next-generation capability to the battlefield.
The MV-75 Cheyenne II stands as a transformative asset for the U.S. Army. With the announcement of its name, Bell and the Army are one step closer to integrating the future of Army Aviation into active service.
