Saab’s GlobalEye has positioned Sweden to acquire a sophisticated airborne early warning and control system, crucial for enhancing decision-making capabilities and operational effectiveness. This advanced system offers long-range surveillance and a comprehensive operational overview across air, land, and maritime domains, thereby augmenting Sweden’s defense capabilities and bolstering national security.
“The unveiling of Sweden’s first GlobalEye is a significant achievement for both Saab and the Swedish Armed Forces. As we move closer to delivery, GlobalEye will empower Sweden with enhanced airborne surveillance and situational awareness capabilities,” stated Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
The aircraft is set to transition into a rigorous testing and verification phase ahead of its inaugural flight and subsequent delivery to the Swedish Armed Forces.
Sweden has contracted three GlobalEye aircraft from Saab. The initial two were ordered through the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) in 2022, with an option for additional units, while a third aircraft was also ordered in 2024.
GlobalEye stands as an advanced multi-domain Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) solution equipped with a wide range of active and passive sensors, enabling long-range detection and identification of objects across air, sea, and land. By providing real-time situational awareness to air forces, armies, and navies, GlobalEye enhances the understanding of the operational environment and facilitates early threat detection.
