WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2026 — Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® (NYSE: LMT) has announced a significant expansion of its strategic partnership with The Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) during the NL-US Defense Industry Days. This alliance, which originated two years ago as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), has evolved into a robust collaboration focused on transitioning advanced technologies from research into operational solutions that bolster the mission readiness of the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
This strategic agreement underscores the combined world-class expertise and leadership of both organizations in driving technological advancements. With over 80 years of experience in developing innovative aerospace systems, Skunk Works continues to provide cutting-edge solutions to allied nations. The collaboration aligns closely with NLR’s commitment to enhancing the sustainability, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of aerospace technology.
Proven results driving future innovation
Since the establishment of this MoU, Skunk Works and NLR have effectively navigated the complex operational and security landscapes involved in high-tech development. By creating robust frameworks, workshops, and specialized working groups, the two organizations have successfully blended their diverse cultures, unlocking new opportunities and laying the groundwork for a more ambitious collaborative agenda.
“We believe that modern aerospace development relies on global integration rather than isolation, making cross-border partnerships essential to deliver systems that no single nation can build alone,” stated Tineke van der Veen, CEO at Royal NLR. “According to the Dutch Defence White Paper 2026, NATO is the cornerstone of our defense, with the United States as our most important ally. Together with Skunk Works, we are committed to cooperating to address the highest priorities for the air force ahead of us.”
Ron Fehlen, Vice President and General Manager of Skunk Works, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership: “Lockheed Martin is excited about continuing our collaboration with NLR. We have made strides in specific projects involving cutting-edge technologies like Thermoplastics, and through ongoing cooperation, we will innovate solutions to tackle urgent aerospace and defense challenges.”
In this next phase of collaboration, focus will be on four key pillars: enhancing connectivity to the Dutch industrial base, coordinating military operational analysis, aligning on technology roadmaps, and collaborating on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). This initiative aims to position the Dutch defense industrial base within the international supply chain, bridge mission needs with capability requirements, and work together on enabling technologies.
