L3Harris, Skydio Partner to Advance Connected Battlefield Capabilities
Modern military operations increasingly rely on the swift collection, transport, and utilization of information within contested battlespaces. The integration of connected autonomous airborne sensors and robust communications enables the rapid dissemination of edge-collected data across the network, ensuring that commanders and warfighters maintain situational awareness, even in complex environments.
In an effort to enhance these capabilities, L3Harris Technologies and Skydio Inc. are collaborating to provide this essential integrated solution for warfighters. This partnership combines Skydio’s advanced autonomous drone technologies with L3Harris’ radios and the Wraith® waveform, ensuring uninterrupted command-and-control links vital for delivering mission-critical data and positional information.
“Our work with Skydio demonstrates how we can connect best-of-breed technologies and resilient networks to give warfighters the right information at the right time,” stated Faisal Munir, President of Mission Critical Communications, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris. “This partnership directly facilitates the warfighter’s ability to continue to communicate, operate UAS assets, and counter threats in challenging electronic warfare environments.”
The collaboration utilizes both companies’ open-system architectures, integrating L3Harris waveforms and the Falcon® IV embeddable radios with Skydio’s X10D drone to deliver enhanced anti-jam protection and electronic warfare capabilities. This initiative also leverages the over 150,000 tactical radios already deployed within U.S. and allied forces that can support the Wraith waveform. With the incorporation of the new Wraith Shield™ waveform, these radios are equipped to scan the spectrum, detect threats, and neutralize adversarial drones.
This partnership signifies a broader trend toward open, interoperable architectures, empowering defense customers to swiftly integrate new systems, platforms, and communication devices into cohesive networks across the battlespace. Furthermore, it exemplifies both companies’ dedication to collaborating within the defense technology ecosystem to create advanced solutions that meet the demands of today’s complex threat landscape.
