L3Harris Celebrates Successful Launch of NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., Aug. 30, 2026 — L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) played a pivotal role in the successful launch of NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, an observatory designed to map the universe. This achievement caps over a decade of engineering excellence, innovation, and collaboration between L3Harris and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

L3Harris provided the 2.4-meter Optical Telescope Assembly (OTA) for the Roman Space Telescope, serving as its primary observational instrument. The company also supplied radiation-hardened electronics designed to ensure telescope functionality approximately 1 million miles from Earth.

“We take immense pride in our contribution to the optical capabilities of the Roman Space Telescope, which will survey the cosmos 1,000 times faster than the Hubble Space Telescope and is poised to unveil billions of galaxies, hundreds of millions of stars, and over 100,000 distant worlds,” stated Jeff Hanke, President of Space Systems at L3Harris. “This technology is instrumental in transforming our understanding of the universe.”

The L3Harris-built OTA will conduct three primary surveys once it becomes operational, including an in-depth look through the Milky Way’s dense galactic center, building the largest astronomical catalog ever compiled. The telescope is set to scan around 12% of the entire sky within 18 months to measure the universe’s expansion rate and to analyze supernova explosions from as far back as 8 billion years ago.

This accomplishment further underscores L3Harris’ commitment to advancing space exploration, with its technology being fundamental to landmark missions such as the James Webb Space Telescope, Mars Perseverance and Curiosity rovers, the GPS satellite constellation, and International Space Station systems.
