Hanwha joins Shangri-La Dialogue on defense cooperation
Hanwha made its mark at the 23rd IISS Asia Security Summit, commonly referred to as the Shangri-La Dialogue, which took place in Singapore from May 29-31.
The company’s involvement underscores its escalating significance in the global defense arena. Engaging in meaningful dialogues concerning the future of defense industrial collaboration, Hanwha interacted with high-ranking officials from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and other nations, alongside leaders from prominent global defense firms.
This year’s summit prominently featured a theme focused on restructuring the global security framework around competent allies. The United States urged allied nations to enhance their defense capabilities and industrial bases while contributing more actively to both regional and global security efforts.
Hanwha is committed to complementing this initiative by integrating industrial capacities into allied economies. Moving away from traditional export models, the company aims to assist allied nations in developing their defense industrial capabilities domestically by producing in collaboration with partners.
Industrial capacity emerged as another key topic at the summit. Participants emphasized the urgent need to bolster production capabilities across allied nations, especially in critical areas like long-range strike capabilities. This strategic approach has resonated in broader discussions among allied nations, with emphasis placed on fortifying the collective industrial base for joint utilization.
The Shangri-La Dialogue convenes defense ministers, military leaders, senior government officials, and industry executives worldwide. While the focus remains on Indo-Pacific security, the summit serves as a platform for wider discussions on allied defense strategies, providing a neutral environment for governments and industry to address pressing global security challenges. Hanwha, with its advanced production capabilities spanning land and maritime defense platforms and AI technologies, actively participates in these essential conversations.
Alex Wong, President of Hanwha Group and Global Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized the company’s advantages, stating, “Hanwha deploys world-class advanced manufacturing technology, produces state-of-the-art defense platforms, and possesses a significant and expanding global footprint. The company is uniquely positioned to partner with nations urgently seeking to strengthen their defense capabilities and industrial bases.”
