The European Commission launches a pilot project with Thales to secure the collaboration of European Defence Fund (EDF) projects

The European Commission is embarking on a significant pilot project aimed at enhancing collaboration among European Defence Fund (EDF) projects, partnering with Thales to implement a robust secure collaborative suite.

This innovative suite is designed to ensure that the exchange and co-editing of documents are not only seamless but also meet the rigorous “RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED” (R-UE/EU-R) security standards. At the heart of this initiative is Thales’ TrustNest R-Cloud platform, which solidifies digital independence and offers heightened protection for critical European projects.

In an era where real-time collaboration is vital for the successful execution of complex projects, the challenge has been maintaining compliance with the strict security protocols required for sensitive information. To address this, the European Commission has initiated a one-year pilot study using Thales’ TrustNest R-Suite, a secure collaborative platform recognized for its capabilities in defense, aerospace, cybersecurity, and digital sectors.

This suite features an environment that fulfills the necessary security standards for Restreint Union Européenne (R-UE/EU-R) classification for tasks such as document exchange and storage, telecommunication, videoconferencing, and management of collaborative environments, provided it operates within a network approved for RESTREINT UE/EU RESTRICTED data.

A pivotal milestone has already been achieved in this pilot project with the recent approval of the Restreint Union Européenne (R-UE/EU-R) for connecting the R-Cloud platform with the Commission’s R-UE/EU-R network, an important step for facilitating collaborative efforts.

“Strengthening secure collaboration between European defence actors is a key lever for the success of EDF projects. It is essential to set up sovereign, cyber-secure and reliable digital tools, allowing the various partners to share sensitive information with confidence and in compliance with the strictest European requirements.” Christoph Siegelin, VP Digital Transformation, Thales.

Launched in 2023, the TrustNest R-Suite application suite is efficiently hosted on the TrustNest R-Cloud platform, which has provided a secure cloud hosting environment since 2022, designed for EU Restricted (EU-R) and French Restricted Distribution (Diffusion Restreinte – DR) information.

The TrustNest R-Suite aspires to become the go-to collaborative setting for major French and European strategic programs, offering a complete range of secure services and access points to facilitate trustworthy connections among all stakeholders and expedite collaboration from inception to execution.
