Rheinmetall is building a modular camp in Lithuania
Rheinmetall has received an initial call-off from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services (BAIUDBw) under the German Armed Forces Contractor Augmentation Program II – Static Accommodation (G-CAP II SU). As the main contractor, Rheinmetall will construct a modular camp in Lithuania designed to accommodate up to 2,000 soldiers, with operations slated to begin in mid-August 2027.
Following the camp’s commissioning, Rheinmetall will handle facility management responsibilities, which include laundry and catering services. The total value for the construction of this modular facility is set at €250 million, while ongoing operations are projected to cost €40 million annually. Notably, this contract was officially booked in the third quarter of 2026.
The G-CAP II SU program aims to provide static accommodation for military personnel during deployments and standby commitments, addressing requirements in international crisis management as well as national and collective defense. This infrastructure is designed to be resilient to varying climatic, geographical, and geological conditions. The program features a modular approach that encompasses all stages from manufacturing to transport, construction, operation, and dismantling, thereby streamlining the process through a single contractor.
This specific contract supports the Bundeswehr in fulfilling its operational mission in Lithuania. The G-CAP II SU initiative, initiated by BAIUDBw, leverages private-sector service providers to establish vital accommodation infrastructure, allowing the Bundeswehr to conserve its resources for higher-threat scenarios.
Rheinmetall is responsible for the comprehensive planning, manufacturing, and delivery of camps worldwide, utilizing land, sea, or air logistics as necessary, along with their construction, multi-year autonomous operation, and eventual dismantling.
