Strengthened Swedish collaboration on Gripen E/F’s engine

The Swedish Government has made a decisive move to enhance the country’s capabilities in relation to the Gripen E/F’s engine. In a strategic initiative, Saab and GKN Aerospace have been assigned the responsibility to foster the necessary conditions to achieve these objectives.

Johan Segertoft, head of Saab’s business unit Gripen, commented, “The cooperation agreement we have now signed lays the foundation for establishing GKN Aerospace as Saab’s partner in engine-related matters for Gripen E/F. For Saab, being able to contribute to strengthening Sweden’s fighter aircraft capability and domestic industrial capacity is of utmost importance.”

This collaboration will enable GKN Aerospace to gradually take on a more significant role in engine-related tasks, offering expertise, capacity, and technical support within the Gripen E/F programme.

It is noteworthy that Saab and GKN Aerospace already share a partnership focused on the engine for Gripen C/D; this new agreement now extends to the advanced Gripen E/F variant.
