Saab has officially signed a contract to supply 16 Gripen E fighter aircraft to Ukraine, which will also include spare parts and related equipment.
Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, expressed pride in this development, stating, “I am deeply proud that Sweden and Saab can now enable the provision of Gripen E to Ukraine, bringing a world-class fighter that will transform the Ukrainian Air Force’s capability. This will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defence and help ensure the nation can protect its people and safeguard its future.”
The Gripen is engineered to meet advanced threats in challenging environments. It offers operational flexibility and resilience, allowing operations from short stretches and temporary runways or roads, thus supporting dispersed operations and high readiness. The aircraft’s software-based architecture supports continuous upgrades and adaptations to meet evolving operational needs. With lower maintenance demands and quick turnaround times, the Gripen provides a sophisticated and cost-effective fighter capability that is user-friendly and maintainable.
