Boeing to increase Standard Missile-3 hardware production under new Pentagon framework agreements
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 14, 2026 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] has secured new seven-year framework agreements with the U.S. Department of War (DoW) and Raytheon, an RTX business, aimed at boosting the production of essential hardware for the Standard Missile-3® (SM-3). This includes key components such as avionics and ejector assemblies integral to the effective interception of missile threats beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
As part of these agreements, Boeing is set to increase the output of avionics and ejector assemblies tailored for the SM-3 Block IB and Block IIA variants. This enhancement supports elevated production levels of the interceptors that are crucial to the U.S. sea-based missile defense strategy, both domestically and internationally.
Bob Ciesla, vice president of Boeing Precision Engagement Systems, emphasized, “This gives us a clear demand signal to build and deliver SM‑3 interceptors at the levels needed to counter threats.” He noted that the SM‑3 is a vital component of the layered air and missile defense framework that safeguards the U.S. and its allies around the globe.
In anticipation of the contracts, Boeing, the DoW, and SM-3 prime contractor Raytheon will increase production even before formal contract negotiations for a multi-year award are finalized under the new framework agreements.
This initiative is in line with the current administration’s strategy to reinforce the Arsenal of Freedom and aligns with the DoW’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy, which aims to expedite the delivery of critical capabilities to service members.
Additionally, the SM-3 framework builds upon Boeing’s previous agreements with the DoW and Lockheed Martin to enhance production of PAC-3® Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) seekers.
