Northrop Grumman Selected to Build New Variant for US Army’s Integrated Battle Command System
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – October 13, 2026 – The U.S. Army has awarded Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) a contract to enhance the capabilities of the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) with a new variant focused on improving the system’s survivability and mobility. This initiative will see Northrop Grumman deliver two manufacturing prototypes to the Army by June 2027.
Valued at $21 million, this effort will provide prototypes for a modified IBCS Integrated Collaborative Environment, featuring an enlarged and configurable workspace. This design replaces the original tent with a more protected, expandable van whose interior extends outward, creating additional space for soldiers, equipment, and mission systems.
- The new configuration allows IBCS to quickly adapt to changing mission requirements and environments, enhancing mobility and survivability while streamlining setup and teardown processes. It also supports six operator workstations and four staff operation stations, optimizing combat power within a more agile footprint.
- This development is part of the U.S. Army’s broader initiative to rapidly modify IBCS in response to evolving operational demands. Whether utilized for expeditionary missions or within layered homeland defense, key advancements include a compact design for improved mobility and survivability, automation for enhanced decision-making, and modernized software for timely capability updates.
- Northrop Grumman is leveraging over $10 million in strategic internal investments and cost-sharing to expedite IBCS development, minimize integration risk, and enhance the capabilities delivered to warfighters.
