Saab is digitalizing Stockholm-Västerås Airport with remote air traffic control services
Saab continues its commitment to advancing aviation technology with the announcement of a remote air traffic control (ATC) solution for Stockholm-Västerås Airport, marking another significant step in the digitalization of air traffic management. This innovative system, already functional at multiple airports, represents a critical development in the aviation sector both within Sweden and internationally.
Once operational, the Stockholm-Västerås Airport will join the ranks of four other airports—Sundsvall-Timrå, Sälen, Örnsköldsvik, and Linköping—utilizing Saab’s Remote Tower Center (RTC) based in Sundsvall. The agreement is set to commence on January 1, 2028, and will span a period of 15 years. Saab plans to provide an extensively digitalized infrastructure which includes a camera tower, remote ATC workstation, and meteorological services.
The terms of the agreement also establish a service-based delivery model, placing the onus on Saab to supply and maintain the digital infrastructure throughout the contract duration. This approach is designed to enhance cost-efficiency and facilitate future technological advancements.
