In a significant move to enhance its airspace protection, the Romanian General Directorate for Armaments has signed an agreement with the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) to supply twelve Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission All-in-one (GM200 MM/A) radars. This agreement, supported by the European Union’s SAFE funding programme, reflects the robust partnership between France and Romania.
The GM200 MM/A radar is a combat-proven solution, recognized for its ability to detect and track a range of targets, from low-flying drones to high-altitude aircraft and missiles, at distances of up to 350 kilometres. Armed with advanced software-defined technology, it offers unparalleled precision in response to evolving aerial threats, thereby serving as a cornerstone of Romania’s national defense strategy.
Designed for mobility and rapid deployment, the GM200 MM/A comes in an all-in-one configuration, with a single 20ft shelter that integrates the radar, mast, and power generator into a vehicle-mobile unit that can be operational in less than 15 minutes.
This procurement is not just a military milestone but also underscores the commitment of Romania and France to fortifying NATO’s eastern flank. With over two decades of collaboration in defense, Thales has played a vital role in supporting Romania’s defense modernization efforts.
