Book: “Sophie Adenot, From Earth to the Stars: The Extraordinary Journey of a French Astronaut”

A new biography, titled Sophie Adenot, From Earth to the Stars: The Extraordinary Journey of a French Astronaut, details the remarkable career of Sophie Adenot, who has transitioned from a pilot to an astronaut, following in the footsteps of the pioneering Claudie Haigneré.

In 1996, Claudie Haigneré made history as the first French woman in space during the Franco-Russian Cassiopée mission. Now, in 2026, Adenot is set to join this illustrious rank as the second French woman to embark on a journey to the stars. She was selected from an impressive pool of around 22,500 candidates, earning her place among European astronauts.

For over three decades, Sophie Adenot has harbored dreams of flying, and now, she is set to participate in the Epsilon mission, commencing on February 13, 2026, which marks the first flight to the International Space Station (ISS) since Thomas Pesquet’s mission in 2021.

Authored by Marc Dana, a senior correspondent for France Télévisions, this biography is rich with exclusive interviews, archival materials, and other unique documents that shed light on Adenot’s journey as an officer in the French Air and Space Force and as a helicopter test pilot. The book chronicles her inspirations, challenges, and the extensive physical and mental preparation required for her missions. Adenot’s name now joins the ranks of legendary space explorers such as Armstrong, Aldrin, Gagarin, Chrétien, and Haigneré.
