Saab announces new Sea Giraffe AMB D radar
The Sea Giraffe AMB D radar system is engineered to detect, track, and classify a broad range of targets, including aircraft, drones, missiles, and both crewed and uncrewed surface vessels. With an impressive operational range of up to 250 km for aerial detections and 50 km for surface engagements, this radar provides crucial early warning and precise target data to enhance decision-making in distributed, multi-domain operations, emphasizing the importance of reliable sensors in gaining operational advantage.
Tailored for the most demanding maritime environments, the Sea Giraffe AMB D radar incorporates advanced Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capabilities that effectively combat jamming attempts. Its modular architecture facilitates seamless integration with other naval systems, while its software-defined structure allows for continual upgrades to adapt to evolving operational needs.
“The Sea Giraffe AMB D elevates proven naval radar capabilities, merging enhanced performance with a low physical footprint and an architecture designed for ongoing development. This system is made to meet the rigorous demands of contemporary naval forces, granting customers the flexibility to progress as future threats emerge,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.
Building on over 70 years of radar innovation and two decades of operational success with the Sea Giraffe AMB radars, the new Sea Giraffe AMB D utilizes Active Electronically Scanned Array radar technology, combined with a revamped software architecture and modern processing capabilities to deliver superior air surveillance performance.
