Governor Profile
H.E. Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali has over 40 years of experience in the industrial sector, including more than 28 years in leadership and executive roles within the petrochemical and manufacturing industries. He has a strong focus on human capital training and development, as well as corporate social responsibility programs and initiatives. He was recognized among the top 10 most influential figures in the petrochemical sector by Refining Petrochemicals Middle East magazine, as part of its list of the top 50 industry leaders in 2018.
H.E. Eng. Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali leads the transformation and localization of the military industries sector in the Kingdom. Prior to joining GAMI, he served for more than 20 years as Vice Chairman and CEO of Saudi International Petrochemical Company (SIPCHEM), transforming the company into a globally competitive petrochemical leader.
Earlier in his career, he spent more than 15 years in leadership roles at SABIC and across the private sector. In addition to his role as GAMI Governor, he currently serves on the boards of the Saudi Committee for Petrochemicals and Chemicals Manufacturers, the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), and the Advisory Board of the Petrochemicals Research Center at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM).
He is also a board member of several councils and committees across various government entities. His Excellency holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), in addition to completing several executive leadership and management programs at leading global universities.
Educational Qualifications
- His Excellency Eng. Al-Ohali holds a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Chemical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, 1981.
- H.E. has also completed several executive programs in leadership, senior management, and finance at some of the world’s most prestigious universities and international institutions.
Professional Experience
- Prior to joining GAMI, he was the Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board at the Saudi International Petrochemical Company (SIPCHEM), where he played a pivotal role since the company’s establishment in 1999, leading its growth and transformation journey, project execution, human capital development, preparation for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), and business expansion, positioning it as a leading global petrochemical company until 2019.
- In 1996, he moved from SABIC to establish and manage a portfolio of medium-scale private sector projects in the petrochemical conversion industries.
- Following his graduation from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), he began his career with one of SABIC’s companies in late 1981, while undertaking a two-year training program in the United States, before joining the company’s operations in Jubail Industrial City. Over the course of his tenure, he held a number of leadership and executive positions, culminating in his appointment as General Manager of Operations.
