L3Harris Receives Contract to Deliver Proximity Fuzes
MELBOURNE, Fla., June 3, 2026 — L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has secured a contract valued up to $98 million from the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division. This contract is designated for the provision of the Department of War’s combat-tested Mechanical Proximity Fuze, which will be integrated into upgrades of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System.
The Mechanical Proximity Fuze, designed and manufactured by L3Harris, is engineered to provide the precision, adaptability, and cost-effectiveness essential for countering emerging unmanned aerial threats across diverse environments. These fuze upgrades will enable launch platforms to transform into low-cost yet effective counter-unmanned aerial system weapons, ensuring reliable detonation upon optimal impact.
“As the U.S. military increasingly prioritizes proven and cost-effective capabilities to address rapid threats, the Mechanical Proximity Fuze from L3Harris has become the preferred solution,” stated Scott Alexander, President of Missile Propulsion, Missile Solutions at L3Harris. “This award is a testament to our ability to respond swiftly and reliably as we enhance our production capacity and fortify industrial resilience to support vital missions.”
The firm-fixed-price contract includes options that could elevate the total value to $98 million. The Mechanical Proximity Fuze is also known as the Fixed Wing, Air Launched, Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Ordnance (FALCO) Proximity Fuze.
In response to growing demand for the FALCO Proximity Fuzes, L3Harris is set to boost its production capacity by seven times. Investments made in tooling, advanced inspection equipment, and supplier expansion are projected to facilitate a twentyfold increase in manufacturing capacity, thereby satisfying current U.S. military requirements along with anticipated future needs.
L3Harris has been delivering advanced fuzes and safe and arm solutions in support of multi-domain operations for over 70 years, with the production of the proximity fuzes taking place in Cincinnati, Ohio.
