Hanwha Aerospace Earns ‘A-‘ S&P Credit Rating
Hanwha Aerospace has received a long-term issuer credit rating of “A-” with a stable outlook from S&P Global Ratings. This marks the company’s inaugural global credit rating, positioning it within the investment-grade tier alongside major global defense manufacturers and allowing access to international debt markets for fundraising.
S&P Global anticipates that Hanwha Aerospace’s core products, including the K9 self-propelled howitzer and the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system, will gain traction due to growth in the global defense sector. The agency highlighted the company’s expanding weapons exports, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, and noted its swift delivery capabilities as notable strengths.
Additionally, S&P Global pointed out Hanwha Aerospace’s vital role in Korea’s national defense, calling attention to a record order backlog of approximately KRW 37 trillion expected by the end of 2025. This backlog is projected to bolster steady revenue growth and enhance profitability in the future.
The rating follows a remarkable year for Hanwha Aerospace, which in 2025 achieved consolidated revenue of KRW 26.7 trillion and an operating profit of KRW 3.09 trillion, the highest in its history. This success was facilitated by advancements in the defense sector and the consolidation of its shipbuilding operations.
Hanwha Aerospace intends to leverage this credit rating to boost confidence among international investors while supporting its funding and cash flow management as it expands in the global defense arena.
Kim Cheol-hong, Chief Financial Officer of Hanwha Aerospace, stated, “This rating, comparable to the world’s leading defense companies, will help secure trust in dialogues with foreign governments and in local investment discussions. Building on it, we aim to enhance our global competitiveness across space, aviation, and defense sectors.”
