
Saab has unveiled the Giraffe AMB D radar, which integrates a new radar array design with a cutting-edge software architecture to enhance operational performance and flexibility. Specifically engineered to counter a diverse array of threats, this system offers exceptional situational awareness through improved detection capabilities and sophisticated target tracking. The software-defined architecture ensures that the radar system can be continuously upgraded, staying relevant to meet future operational demands.
According to Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, “Giraffe AMB D demonstrates how technological innovation can enhance sensor capability while making the system more compact and deployable, with a reduced footprint. The result is a highly modular, mobile multi-domain radar that provides operational flexibility from the tactical edge to strategic missions.”
Building on more than 70 years of radar innovation and over two decades of proven performance with the Giraffe AMB, the new Giraffe AMB D takes advantage of Active Electronically Scanned Array radar technology coupled with an updated software architecture and modern processing capabilities to significantly improve air surveillance performance. This advanced system is capable of detecting and tracking a wide range of airborne threats while maintaining the versatility needed to address future challenges.
