Peru Selects L3Harris Electronic Warfare System for F-16 Fleet
CLIFTON, N.J., Aug. 18, 2026 — L3Harris Technologies has secured a contract from the government of Peru to supply its Viper Shield™ electronic warfare (EW) system for the nation’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft program. This sophisticated EW system acts as digital armor, enabling pilots to effectively disrupt enemy radars, missiles, and other electronic threats.
The integration of the Viper Shield system will significantly bolster both the offensive and defensive capabilities of Peru’s new F-16 Block 70 fleet. Moreover, Viper Shield enhances the interoperability of allied forces by providing Peru with the latest EW capabilities found in other nations’ F-16 Block 70 aircraft.
Christopher Aebli, President of Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris, stated, “We are focused on providing Peru with a low-risk EW solution through our active production line, ongoing flight test program, and established supply chain.” He highlighted that eight nations have already adopted Viper Shield and mentioned that they are accelerating toward full-rate production of 233 systems.
L3Harris originally developed Viper Shield in collaboration with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force. The system boasts a range of installation options, including integration into the Block 70/72 aircraft, a retrofit version for earlier F-16 blocks, and an external pod option. Viper Shield is designed to be software-defined and easily upgradeable, ensuring that its capabilities can evolve to meet emerging threats.
