Hanwha Power Commissions Ohio CCGT Plant
On June 24, 2026, the Trumbull Energy Center Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant in Ohio officially commenced operations with a successful commissioning and opening ceremony. This event marked the launch of the 950 MW facility, welcoming key project partners including Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. (KOSPO), Gemma Power Systems, Siemens Energy, and officials from the Ohio state government, alongside the Korean Consul General and financing lenders.
The Trumbull Energy Center was developed to mitigate the power gap resulting from the retirement of outdated coal-fired plants. It is expected to be a vital component within the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland (PJM) Interconnection grid, the largest wholesale electricity market in the United States.
In a significant achievement for Hanwha Power, the company successfully commissioned its first Fuel Gas Compressors (FGCs) in the U.S., providing three units for the CCGT power plant. These compressors utilize Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology, designed to ensure continuous operation despite the extreme seasonal pipeline pressure fluctuations typical in the PJM region.
In addition to supplying the equipment, Hanwha Power has secured a nine-year Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) that covers capital spare parts and maintenance services across three major overhaul cycles. The Houston service center of Hanwha Power will serve as the primary hub for on-site support and component refurbishment, enhancing lifecycle management of the units. This strategic partnership signifies Hanwha’s commitment to expanding its service footprint in North America.
Joo Mong Choi, CEO of Trumbull Asset Management, remarked, “The successful commissioning of the Trumbull Energy Center and the deployment of Hanwha Power’s advanced compressors represent a significant milestone, showcasing the world-class reliability of Korean power generation technology in the U.S. market. As we contribute to the region’s clean energy transition by supplying stable power to the PJM grid, we look forward to further expanding our footprint in the North American power sector through continued, strong partnerships with leading Korean companies.”
Hanwha Power’s Chief Commercial Officer, Prakash Nair, commented on the project: “Securing both the equipment supply contract and an LTSA for this project reflects the confidence our client has placed in Hanwha Power’s technical and operational capabilities. This project is a strong foundation for Hanwha Power’s long-term presence in the U.S. power generation market — not only in equipment supply, but in service partnerships that last.”
Looking ahead, Hanwha Power aims to bolster its offering of eco-friendly, high-efficiency power generation solutions while expanding its service business in key markets, including North America, leveraging its technological expertise and operational experience in the global power equipment sector.
