L3Harris is Selected to Upgrade Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s Critical Communications Network

L3Harris Technologies has secured a significant contract to enhance the critical communications infrastructure of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) following a competitive procurement process. The agreement, valued at over $20 million, aims to improve coverage across the Buffalo, New York area and provide technological upgrades for transit and aviation professionals, including first responders. This new partnership extends a collaboration that spans over 25 years.

As part of this contract, L3Harris will implement a new Project 25 (P25) network designed to modernize NFTA’s legacy mission-critical system, which has been in operation for decades. The project encompasses the construction of a new tower network, consisting of three key sites, and will feature an innovative six-mile tunnel coverage solution, reliant on a sophisticated Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) infrastructure, ensuring high resilience and continuous operation under unexpected circumstances.

“L3Harris is deeply committed to the city of Buffalo and the great state of New York. With our roots firmly based in Rochester, we have a strong understanding of the NFTA’s mission and the communities it serves,” stated Kevin Pietrzak, Vice President and General Manager of Public Safety and Professional Communications at L3Harris. “This future-ready system is customized to NFTA’s needs and will help support its commitment to safe, reliable transportation for years to come.”
