
RTX’s Pratt & Whitney completes successful demonstration test of 3D-printed TJ150 engine
Additive manufacturing increases production speed and industrial flexibility to meet growing demand for expendable engines
LONDON, July 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — At the Farnborough International Airshow, Pratt & Whitney, a division of RTX (NYSE: RTX), proudly announced the successful completion of demonstration testing for its innovative additively manufactured TJ150 engine.
In a testament to advanced manufacturing techniques, nearly 60% of the engine’s volume was fabricated through additive processes, incorporating critical static and rotating components. The testing regimen was designed to validate the material performance in operational settings while ensuring durability to meet demanding mission profiles.

Pratt & Whitney has strategically invested in advancing additive manufacturing techniques for the TJ150, reinforcing its long-term strategies for producibility and scalability. So far, the company has successfully consolidated over 50 individual hot section components into a limited number of additively manufactured parts and tested a 3D-printed rotating turbine wheel. These achievements have led to the recently validated TJ150 configuration, showcasing the integration of cutting-edge technology in military engine production.
