Rheinmetall is supplying 155 mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine
Rheinmetall has been commissioned by Ukraine to deliver long-range artillery ammunition, specifically comprising 155-mm artillery shells and associated propellant charges. This order falls within the low five-figure range in terms of quantity, and the contract, valued in the high double-digit millions of euros, is scheduled to be recognized in the second quarter of 2026. Production for this order is already underway, with a completion target set for the first quarter of 2027.
The ammunition will be produced at Rheinmetall Expal Munitions located in Spain. The specific munitions include the ER02A1 B/B projectiles alongside the M203 propellant charges, which are currently utilized by various NATO allies. Developed for compatibility with a broad spectrum of 155 mm weapon systems, these munitions are distinguished by their extended range and high operational effectiveness.
In response to the escalating demand for advanced 155-mm projectiles and propellant charges, Rheinmetall is significantly boosting its production capabilities. The Düsseldorf-based defense technology group, recognized as a leading manufacturer of large-caliber ammunition, has been expanding its output capacity since 2022 and aims to reach a production milestone of approximately 1.5 million 155 mm artillery shells annually by the year 2030.
