L3Harris Successfully Tests Advanced Propulsion System
MELBOURNE, Fla., June 3, 2026 — L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) has achieved a significant milestone in its development of an advanced propulsion system for the U.S. Army’s Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment 4 program. This successful test highlights the system’s potential to enhance extended range capabilities essential for maintaining a strategic advantage in evolving threat landscapes.
The next-generation missile system is designed to provide precision effects at extended ranges, fully compatible with existing platforms, such as the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).
Scott Alexander, President of Missile Propulsion at L3Harris, stated, “Advancing our propulsion system from ground test to flight test underscores our commitment to meeting the Army’s mission requirements and timelines. Our system achieves a balance of capability and affordability by fulfilling the Army’s needs for speed, range, and lethality.”
Randy Crites, Vice President of Advanced Programs at Lockheed Martin, added, “The Direct Connect Transition Test validates the missile’s propulsion capabilities, confirming it can be efficiently integrated with existing HIMARS and M270 launchers, thereby reducing the time to deploy to warfighters.”
L3Harris has proactively invested in the maturation of its propulsion technologies over the past two years, reinforcing its readiness to meet the rapid demands of the Department of War.
The testing took place at L3Harris’ facility in Orange County, Virginia, where representatives from both Lockheed Martin and the Army’s Aviation and Missile Center witnessed this pivotal transition test. The facility spans over 2,000 acres and includes 256,000 square feet of manufacturing space, equipped with a static test facility, an aerothermal propulsion lab, and an altitude test site.
