Rheinmetall awarded maintenance contract for customs vessels
Rheinmetall’s Naval Systems Division has been awarded a significant maintenance contract by the Federal Customs Administration for four new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered customs vessels. This multi-year framework agreement encompasses a range of services, including maintenance, repairs, and emergency support for the vessels.
The contract outlines comprehensive assistance in addressing technical issues during the vessels’ operations and stipulates regular maintenance to be conducted at the berths in Lubmin, Neustadt i.H., Wilhelmshaven, and Emden. The service agreement specifically involves one 67-metre customs vessel and three 55-metre customs vessels, all constructed at the Peene-Werft shipyard and delivered to the client last year, in accordance with the planned schedule and contractual commitments.
Tim Wagner, CEO of the Naval Systems Division, emphasized the company’s commitment, stating, “Our aim is to support our customers as a reliable partner not only during the construction phase but throughout the entire lifecycle of their vessels. The new framework agreement is important evidence of this and, at the same time, a confirmation of our strategy to closely link new-build expertise with our service offerings.”
This service package will enable the customer to leverage the shipyard’s extensive knowledge of the vessels, particularly valuable for the three craft built at Rheinmetall’s Wolgast site, where insights from new construction projects can be effectively applied to maintenance, repairs, and technical optimization efforts.
By establishing this framework agreement, Rheinmetall is not only enhancing its service business but also fostering a long-term partnership with its customer. The vessels, constructed from aluminum, are primarily tasked with overseeing and regulating cross-border goods traffic within Germany’s territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
