RTX’s Pratt & Whitney Valox™ 1500 Engine Completes Key Design Milestone
Valox 1500 design set to deliver an optimal mix of affordability, performance, and speed to market for autonomous platforms
LONDON, July 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — At the Farnborough International Airshow, Pratt & Whitney, a division of RTX (NYSE: RTX), announced that it has achieved a significant design milestone for its Valox™ 1500 engine. This new engine is being developed specifically for semi-autonomous collaborative platforms, and its comprehensive digital assessment indicates that it is poised to provide an ideal combination of performance, affordability, and rapid deployment.
Jill Albertelli, president of Pratt & Whitney’s Military Engines business, stated, “This milestone reflects Pratt & Whitney’s agility and commitment to delivering critical capability to the warfighter at speed. By optimizing the engine design for reduced mission life and moving beyond traditional development timelines, our team is bringing forward a more affordable, scalable propulsion solution for emerging operational needs.”
Pratt & Whitney has made significant strides in de-risking the development timeline through proactive investments in digital engineering, and the focus now shifts to finalizing the design in preparation for subsequent ground testing. In late 2025, the company secured a contract in excess of $10 million from the U.S. Air Force aimed at advancing the engine design.
Recently, Pratt & Whitney introduced the Valox™ engine family, designed to meet the demands of speed, precision, and cost-efficiency for modern collaborative combat systems and a variety of emerging applications.
