Selection of fuel efficient engines and EngineWise support build on decade-long relationship
LONDON, July 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — At the Farnborough International Air Show, Pratt & Whitney, a business unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), announced a new agreement with Tigerair Taiwan to supply GTF engines for an additional 15 Airbus A321neo aircraft. This order comprises four firm commitments and 11 leased units. Currently, Tigerair Taiwan operates a fleet of nine Airbus A320neo family aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines, alongside nine Airbus A320ceos powered by IAE V2500 engines.
As part of the new agreement, Pratt & Whitney will deliver maintenance services under a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive services contract, which aims to ensure consistent maintenance costs and optimal operational efficiency. Engine deliveries for this latest order are anticipated to commence in 2028.
Rick Deurloo, president of Commercial Engines at Pratt & Whitney, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, “This latest GTF order reaffirms Tigerair Taiwan’s trust in Pratt & Whitney, which exclusively powers the airline’s fleet. The GTF engine will continue to enable Tigerair Taiwan’s regional fleet expansion while delivering best-in-class fuel efficiency.”
Tigerair Taiwan’s chairperson, Joyce Huang, highlighted the long-standing relationship with Pratt & Whitney since the airline began operations in 2014. She remarked, “Our new A321neo fleet, powered by the GTF engine, will advance our next phase of growth, as we continue to serve more passengers across more destinations with a lower cost per seat.”
The GTF engine is known for its advanced design, achieving 20% lower fuel consumption and producing a 75% smaller noise footprint compared to earlier engine generations. With over 2,800 GTF-powered aircraft currently in service globally across more than 90 customers, the order backlog of over 8,000 GTF engines showcases robust market demand. The engine’s revolutionary geared architecture is set to underpin the next generation of propulsion technologies.
