Rheinmetall and Silvus Technologies are strengthening airspace security

Rheinmetall Air Defence AG has finalized a strategic agreement with Silvus Technologies, a leader in advanced radio frequency (RF) technology, aimed at integrating passive RF sensors into Rheinmetall’s ground-based air defense systems. This collaboration introduces a new layer of passive threat detection within Rheinmetall’s Skynex Air Defence System and Skymaster command and control platform, leveraging the electromagnetic spectrum to bolster resilience and enhance early threat awareness.

“As airspace becomes increasingly congested and challenging to monitor, largely due to the proliferation of unmanned aircraft and stealthy aerial technologies, our need for sophisticated detection systems becomes paramount,” stated Roman Köhne, CEO of Rheinmetall Air Defence AG. “Conventional detection methods may falter when faced with new and complex threats. The integration of passive RF sensing into the Skymaster platform equips air defenders with the capability to respond effectively to emerging aerial threats.”

Silvus Technologies’ RFeye sensors are designed to complement existing systems, providing an additional layer of passive detection that can identify and locate aerial platforms without the need for active transmission, thereby preserving the sensors’ operational security. Within the Skymaster framework, these sensors enhance radar capabilities, allowing operators to maintain a more comprehensive and persistent air and electromagnetic picture (REMP).

“This agreement underscores our mutual dedication to delivering resilient air defense systems for allied forces,” remarked Peter Moss, director of strategic NATO accounts at Silvus Technologies. “The convergence of RFeye technology with Rheinmetall’s air defense architecture significantly enhances operators’ situational awareness, enabling quicker responses and safer decision-making.”

Silvus Technologies is a prominent entity specializing in advanced tactical networking and Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO). The company is at the cutting edge of innovation for mission-critical applications, enhancing data-driven decision-making at the tactical edge with high-capacity MANET communications, intelligent spectrum awareness, and resilience against electronic warfare.

Through its reliable StreamCaster family of MANET radios and proprietary MN-MIMO waveform, Silvus offers robust, high-throughput connectivity for defense and public safety agencies operating in some of the most complex environments worldwide. By pushing beyond traditional communication methodologies, Silvus provides comprehensive EMSO capabilities that enable operators to sense, manage, and defend their communications even within contested spectra.

Based in Los Angeles and powered by a talented team of PhD scientists and engineers, Silvus continues to reshape the future of the tactical ecosystem with proven range, scalability, and interference mitigation strategies. For more details, visit Silvus Technologies.
