
Northrop Grumman’s Lunar Infrastructure Demos to Help Build NASA’s Moon Base

On August 4, 2026, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) announced its development of a series of Lunar Infrastructure Demo (LID) missions aimed at aiding NASA in the rapid advancement of the power and data infrastructure needed for a Moon Base. This initiative focuses on technologies capable of enduring the harsh conditions of the lunar night while supporting a sustained human presence at the Moon’s South Pole.
In an effort to accelerate NASA’s timeline, Northrop Grumman is leveraging hardware and technology derived from the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) program. HALO’s power, data, and mechanical interfaces will facilitate quicker progress, enabling NASA to gather critical performance data from the lunar surface sooner rather than later.
The missions, LID-1, LID-2, and LID-3, are specifically designed to validate and expand the infrastructure essential for Artemis crews and robotic explorers. By showcasing how key lunar assets can remain powered, safeguarded, and interconnected during periods of lunar night and shadow, these missions will equip NASA with vital data that will inform Artemis surface operations and extended lunar missions.
