Hanwha showcases multi-layered air defense at MSPO 2026

Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Systems are set to jointly participate in MSPO 2026 (the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition) from September 8 to 11 in Kielce, Poland. The two companies will present a comprehensive defense portfolio tailored to Poland and its NATO allies, emphasizing enhanced capabilities for Eastern Europe and the Baltic region. Their joint stand, located in Hall 1, Booth A17, will operate under the motto “Proven Partnership. Strategic Capabilities. Sovereign Defence.”

Building on a history of collaboration with Poland that began in 2014, marked by the selection of Hanwha’s K9 chassis for the Polish Krab Self-Propelled Howitzer, the partnership has been further solidified through the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer and Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System programs, known in Poland as Homar-K. This year, Hanwha will highlight innovations including a multi-layered air defense suite, advanced laser weapon systems, ground and naval unmanned systems, and cutting-edge space AI solutions, alongside its established artillery and ammunition offerings.

Multi-layered air defense suite

Hanwha Aerospace will showcase an array of multi-layered air defense systems designed to counter threats from low-altitude drones to long-range missiles. The exhibit will feature the L-SAM long-range surface-to-air missile launcher and interceptor, the H-SHORAD short-range air defense system, the H-Shield counter-drone system, and a 40 mm wheeled counter-UAS platform. These systems are designed to integrate with Hanwha Systems’ command-and-control (C2) network and interceptor drones, providing a flexible and coordinated response to aerial threats.

Also on display will be Cheon gwang, South Korea’s first operational laser weapon system, which includes a 50 kW laser mounted on an armored vehicle and a 20 kW tactical laser vehicle. With an approximate cost per shot of KRW 2,000 (about USD 1.50), this laser system is positioned as an economical countermeasure capable of neutralizing micro-drones in a matter of seconds.

Manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) and naval unmanned systems

For ground unmanned systems, Hanwha will illustrate its MUM-T operational concept via a diorama and actual hardware, which connects the K9A1 self-propelled howitzer, an unmanned multiple rocket launcher, and the H-UGV unmanned ground vehicle. Under this concept, the manned howitzer is responsible for fire support while unmanned systems handle reconnaissance and maneuver roles, enhancing operational reach while minimizing personnel exposure. The stand will also feature the export-variant K-NIFV infantry fighting vehicle along with an Active Protection System (APS) that improves ground forces’ survivability.

In the naval systems domain, Hanwha will showcase unmanned surface vessels (USVs) tailored for Baltic naval modernization efforts, including the Striker-S USV equipped with a Chunmoo launcher, which aids in expediting the entry into unmanned systems markets.

Advanced artillery, ammunition, and lifecycle support

Demonstrating its commitment to Poland, Hanwha Aerospace will exhibit the upgraded K9A2 alongside a specially designed 155 mm ammunition package featuring a trajectory-correcting fuze for enhanced precision and a Modular Charge System (MCS). The company is actively pursuing Poland’s third K9 execution contract (EC3).

Addressing the increasing demand in Europe for long-range precision fires, Hanwha will showcase four variants of Chunmoo guided rockets. Additionally, their stand will highlight maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, including a Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) for predictive maintenance and a K9 turret simulator, reaffirming their focus on long-term lifecycle support.

Real-time space AI solution launch

On September 9, Hanwha Systems will conduct a launch event at MSPO 2026 to demonstrate its proprietary satellite-imagery AI analytics solution. This solution will analyze real-time imagery captured by operational satellites, processing electro-optical (EO), infrared (IR), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data to enable automated object detection, pattern analysis, and anomaly detection, thus streamlining tactical decision-making.
