Hanwha Aerospace to supply Chunmoo MRLS to Croatia

Hanwha Aerospace has secured a significant contract with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia for the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system (MRLS), marking a strategic entry into the Croatian defense market and expanding the system’s presence in Europe.

The contract signing took place on September 10 at the Office of the Prime Minister of Croatia, attended by notable figures including Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of Croatia; Ivan Anušić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence; Ahn Gyu-back, Minister of National Defense of South Korea; and other senior representatives from both nations.

“Today’s signing marks the beginning of Hanwha Aerospace’s long-term defence partnership with Croatia,” stated Billy Boo-hwan Lee, Head of Business Operations at Hanwha Aerospace. “We are honored that Chunmoo has been selected to support the modernization of the Croatian Armed Forces, and we look forward to delivering proven capabilities, reliable lifecycle support, and enduring partnership for many years to come.”

Valued at EUR 411.8 million, the contract involves supplying 18 Chunmoo launchers along with ammunition carriers, fire direction command vehicles, and integrated logistics support. Additionally, it encompasses various types of precision-guided rockets suitable for short-, medium-, and long-range operations, along with training and lifecycle support services. The deliveries are set to extend through 2030.

The customized system for Croatia will integrate the TOPAZ battlefield management system, developed by Poland’s WB Group, thereby enhancing interoperability among European users of the Chunmoo system.

Prime Minister Plenković commented, “This is one of the largest investments in the equipment and modernization of the Croatian Armed Forces. With the Chunmoo system, the Croatian Armed Forces acquire a new strategic capability for fast and precise action, targeting high-value assets at distances ranging from approximately 30 to several hundred kilometers.”

This contract further strengthens Chunmoo’s user base across Europe as Hanwha Aerospace continues to cultivate defense partnerships through advanced land systems, local manufacturing agreements, and consistent delivery of high-end capabilities.

In a display of its commitment to expanding its European footprint, Hanwha Aerospace announced plans to officially launch the Chunmoo User Club in 2027, following a Chunmoo User Workshop conducted in Estonia on September 3.
