Northrop Grumman to Produce the Next-Generation Precision Guidance Kit with Anti-Jamming Technology

PLYMOUTH, Minn. – Sept. 9, 2026 – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has announced that it will produce the PGK E5, a next-generation version of the M1156 Precision Guidance Kit (PGK) equipped with vital anti-jam capabilities. This innovation aims to enable U.S. Army and allied forces to sustain artillery operations even in GPS-degraded environments.

• The PGK E5 enhances current 155 mm high-explosive projectiles into cost-effective, GPS-guided munitions, providing precise indirect fire capabilities suited for contemporary threat landscapes.
• This upgraded version boasts advanced anti-jam technology that addresses emerging electronic threats, ensuring reliable accuracy in contested battlegrounds while retaining the established form factor and user experience of the existing PGK.
• Recent tests in GPS-degraded scenarios have shown that the PGK E5 can surpass both threshold and objective accuracy requirements. Such precision minimizes collateral damage and reduces the number of rounds required per engagement, thereby increasing warfighter survivability.

Details on the PGK E5:
As GPS jamming becomes more prevalent, Northrop Grumman has worked alongside the U.S. Army to innovate and produce this solution for the PGK without altering its compatibility with 155 mm artillery systems.
Production is already underway at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Plymouth, Minnesota, with initial deliveries expected in early 2028.
The PGK E5 is designed to be compatible with existing 155 mm projectiles and fielded howitzers, necessitating minimal retraining or system modifications, facilitating rapid deployment and fielding.
