RTX’s Raytheon awarded $1.1 billion U.S. Navy contract to produce AIM-9X Block II missiles
Award continues program expansion capacity to meet rising domestic and international demand
TUCSON, Ariz., June 26, 2026 — Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has been awarded a significant contract valued at $1.1 billion from the U.S. Navy to produce AIM-9X Block II missiles. This initiative is designed to enhance the U.S. military’s missile inventory while addressing increased demand from allied nations.
Under the terms of the contract, Raytheon is tasked with manufacturing AIM-9X missiles and the necessary associated hardware and software for both U.S. and Foreign Military Sales clients.
“Our teams have streamlined production, shortened lead times and ramped up deliveries of AIM-9X missiles to keep pace with growing demand,” said Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon. “This contract, along with our close partnership with the U.S. Navy, enables us to sustain that momentum and ensure U.S. and allied forces have this advanced, combat-proven capability they rely on in high-threat environments.”
The AIM-9X missile stands out as the most advanced infrared tracking, short-range air-to-air and surface-to-air missile currently in operation. It boasts a proven combat record across multiple global theaters and is easily installable on a wide array of modern aircraft. Additionally, it provides layered defense options that include ground-launched capabilities, such as those used in the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS).
Widely trusted by the U.S. and over 35 allied nations, the AIM-9X is regarded as a vital component for maintaining strategic deterrence and operational supremacy on a global scale. To accommodate the rising demand, Raytheon is planning to ramp up production capacity to 2,500 missiles annually.
