RTX, NATO advance major expansion of AMRAAM® production capacity

Feasibility studies launched to expand European co-production and accelerate deliveries

ANKARA, Türkiye, July 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — In a significant move to bolster global production capabilities for the AMRAAM® missile, Raytheon, a business unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), announced the initiation of feasibility studies aimed at enhancing European co-production.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the U.S. government and several NATO allies, focuses on qualifying additional suppliers in Europe for critical AMRAAM components. Funded by participating countries, the objective is to increase production capacity, expedite deliveries, boost supply chain resilience, and address urgent air defense requirements for both U.S. and European military forces.

Michael P. Duffey, U.S. Department of War Under Secretary for Acquisition and Sustainment, emphasized, “Expanding AMRAAM production capacity is essential to meeting the urgent air defense needs of the United States and our allies. As the world’s most advanced air-to-air missile, AMRAAM is central to maintaining our operational edge. This is the kind of practical industrial cooperation that turns Allied commitments into tangible warfighting capability, strengthens burden sharing, and ensures that the United States and its Allies can deliver capabilities swiftly in today’s security environment.”

Anticipation is building as more nations are expected to join this multinational effort to increase industrial capacity and fulfil the rising global demand for AMRAAM.

The combat-proven AMRAAM continues to represent the most capable air-to-air missile system globally, serving as a cornerstone of air superiority for over 40 nations.

Sam Deneke, president of Air & Space Defense Systems at Raytheon, stated, “This initiative underscores how industry and governments can work together to strengthen the transatlantic defense industrial base. With allies investing in expanded capacity and the U.S. government backing the necessary policy framework, we can hasten the delivery of this proven capability to the warfighters who depend on AMRAAM every day.”

During the NATO Summit, a signing ceremony was held to recognize the collaboration among the United States, participating allies, and Raytheon, attended by senior officials, including Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, the Honorable Michael Duffey, and international partners.
