RTX’s Pratt & Whitney awarded $1.3 billion F135 sustainment contract
Contract strengthens global F135 support and advances readiness
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., July 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has secured an indefinitized contract valued at nearly $1.3 billion for F135 engine spare parts. The F135 engine is integral to all three variants of the F-35 Lightning II, recognized as the most advanced fighter aircraft globally.
The contract, classified as an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ), is intended to cover the fiscal year 2026 requirements for initial spare parts, deployable spare packages, depot lay-ins, and associated support equipment to assist both U.S. and international F-35 operators.
Chris Johnson, vice president of Pratt & Whitney’s F135 Program, emphasized the importance of the contract, stating, “Ensuring the F135 remains mission-ready is critical to the success of the F-35 enterprise. This contract will help strengthen our global sustainment network to ensure operators around the world can continue to rely on the F135’s unmatched performance.”
The F135 sustainment network is bolstered by a robust global presence, incorporating numerous depot facilities and support for 42 bases and 13 ships worldwide. Utilizing extensive maintenance, logistics, and technical capabilities across its international framework, Pratt & Whitney is committed to enhancing the F135 program for agile and mission-critical support wherever the F-35 fleet is deployed.
Since its inception, Pratt & Whitney has delivered over 1,500 F135 production engines to a diverse customer base that spans 20 allied nations. The anticipated F135 Engine Core Upgrade represents a pivotal modernization solution for the F-35, capitalizing on the existing F135 sustainment framework to offer proven, cost-effective support for global F-35 operators, which will ultimately enhance fleet readiness and ensure long-term operational capability.
