RTX’s Raytheon and Composite Energy Technology successfully demonstrate new unmanned undersea vehicle
First-of-its-kind demo advances autonomous undersea operations
PORTSMOUTH, R.I., Aug. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Raytheon, a member of the RTX (NYSE: RTX) portfolio, alongside Composite Energy Technologies (CET), has marked a significant milestone by successfully demonstrating the undersea launch capabilities of HADALUS, a new low-cost, long-endurance unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV).
This innovative UUV recently completed a series of missions during a U.S. Navy exercise at an undersea test range, showcasing its ability to launch while submerged—this accomplishment being the first of its kind witnessed by the U.S. Navy. The demonstration points towards a future where a single unmanned platform is capable of detecting, reacquiring, and engaging during a single operational mission.

HADALUS measures 34 feet in length with a six-foot cross section and boasts an impressive endurance of over 2,000 nautical miles. Its free-flooded, all-carbon-fiber exoskeleton delivers remarkable strength and payload capacity while supporting a significantly lower-cost architecture. With an anticipated cost of roughly one-third to one-fifth that of comparable long-endurance vehicles, HADALUS presents a scalable pathway for deploying affordable undersea capabilities.
Within a span of less than 18 months, Raytheon and CET have advanced from a conceptual design to a fully functional prototype demonstrated in marine environments. This rapid progress was fueled by the commitment from both companies to invest in vehicle design, launcher integration, sonar and electronics, culminating in thorough system testing leading up to the exercise.
