Northrop Grumman Celebrates Major Expansion of Melbourne Campus to Support Sixth-Generation Airpower

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Aug. 3, 2026 – Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) highlighted its pivotal position in Florida’s aerospace and defense sector through a recent employee engagement event at its Melbourne campus. This site is home to a workforce of approximately 5,000 and encompasses 2 million square feet of operational space.
During the event, Tom Jones, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems, stated, “We’re continuing to grow in Florida, turning years of investment and experience into real capabilities our warfighters need. This facility reinforces Melbourne as the epicenter of sixth-generation aircraft. Most times, we host ribbon-cuttings when we open new facilities. In our world, we also celebrate by closing them, because our people are about to get to work on things in this facility that we can’t talk about. Between these walls in just a few months, we will have cutting-edge labs, and hundreds of skilled engineers coming together in a world-class facility. This is what momentum looks like.”
The event underscored Melbourne’s evolving significance in the realm of next-generation aircraft development, underscored by the newly established 300,000-square-foot engineering facility. This modern campus is designed for more than 1,200 engineers and includes 17 secure laboratories specifically for advanced aircraft design. It is a testament to Northrop Grumman’s dedication to enhancing the workforce, technology, and infrastructure necessary for delivering next-generation airpower. Such initiatives position Florida as a sustainable hub for innovation and support of the nation’s defense programs.
Among those present were U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos (FL-8), Florida Secretary of Commerce Alex Kelly, and Florida State Sen. Debbie Mayfield (District 19), who lent their support to the celebration.
Northrop Grumman’s contributions to the Florida economy are significant, with nearly 8,000 employees and over 500 supplier partners generating more than $10 billion in annual economic output, as reported by a recent study.
