Kodiak™ Containerized Launcher Completes First Live-Fire Launch Test

DALLAS, Aug. 12, 2026 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has successfully completed the inaugural integrated live-fire test of its latest containerized launcher, Kodiak™. During this demonstration, the team employed a Reduced-Range Practice Rocket (RRPR), showcasing the system’s capability to execute offensive fires from a containerized platform.

THE BIG PICTURE

The test proved Lockheed Martin’s proficiency in loading and launching a RRPR from the containerized launcher. This achievement follows a series of successful GRIZZLY™ tests, underscoring the flexibility and effectiveness of containerized solutions in offering the Department of War economical and concealed weapon capabilities. The integration of these launchers enhances both operational adaptability and lethality for a variety of missions.

WHY IT MATTERS

  • Plug-and-Play: The Kodiak containerized launcher is designed for deployment from air, land, or sea platforms, creating a versatile capability for all branches of the service. Each container can accommodate up to 12 GMLRS® rockets, allowing for scalable firepower within a compact footprint.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: The RRPR serves as the training round for HIMARS® and M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) crews, facilitating live-fire training with munitions like GMLRS and the comprehensive MLRS Family of Munitions (MFOM).
  • Delivery When it Matters: GMLRS equips commanders with the ability to engage distant targets with precision and promptness, ensuring warfighters are equipped with necessary firepower when and where it is most critical.
  • Flexibility of Containerization: The availability of offensive weapon systems in a containerized format affords customers the flexibility to adapt their operational movements as required.
  • Demonstrated Capability, Expanded GMLRS Capacity: This recent demonstration emphasizes a matured system supported by a strong production foundation, with GMLRS capacity extending to meet growing demand while containerized launchers can swiftly deliver capability wherever it is needed.

EXPERT PERSPECTIVE

“Achieving a live-fire launch from our Kodiak containerized system in under six months illustrates the speed and agility our customers require,” stated Randy Crites, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Advanced Programs. “Successfully fulfilling all mission criteria on our first attempt reinforces our dedication to providing a ready-to-fire solution that aligns with the dynamic needs of the battlefield.”
