American Rheinmetall awarded U.S. Army contract for Project Sustainment
American Rheinmetall has secured an 18-month contract as part of the U.S. Army’s Project Sustainment initiative, executed via the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC). Serving as the prime contractor, American Rheinmetall will deliver next-generation uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) capabilities aimed at enhancing the Army’s tactical sustainment operations and supporting broader modernization efforts.
For Project Sustainment, American Rheinmetall is tasked with providing hybrid-powered, autonomous UGVs specifically designed to bolster company-sized element sustainment missions. These advanced vehicles will autonomously transport supplies to and from the forward line of troops, significantly reducing risk to Soldiers and improving operational efficiency in contested environments.
The initiative prioritizes innovation in autonomy, commercial viability, and hybrid power integration, featuring enhancements such as voice control to optimize Soldier-system interaction. Project work will take place across various U.S. facilities and testing ranges.
American Rheinmetall is collaborating with an array of key partners for this effort, which include Harbinger, Forterra, and Primordial Labs. Harbinger contributes substantial commercial technology and vehicle know-how, enabling swift development and scalable production. Forterra offers autonomy capabilities that facilitate distributed, mission-aware, and resilient military operations amid contested conditions, improving operational capabilities with minimal human intervention to further safeguard Soldiers. Meanwhile, Primordial Labs’ cutting-edge human-machine interface, Anura, redefines the interaction between troops and robotic systems. By breaking down command into intuitive, natural language directives, Anura effectively scales the Soldier-to-robot ratio, decreases cognitive load, streamlines training, and supports heads-up, hands-free operation.
