RTX’s Raytheon awarded $1.8 billion hardware production and sustainment contract for SPY-6 family of radars

Production continues to ramp for U.S. Navy’s most advanced maritime radar

ANDOVER, Mass., July 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Raytheon, a business unit of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has secured a $1.8 billion extension of its contract for the SPY-6 radar system, essential for the U.S. Navy’s operational needs. This contract represents a continuation of the hardware production and sustainment agreement first established in March 2022. If all options within the contract are exercised, the cumulative value could rise to $3.3 billion.

Barbara Borgonovi, president of Naval Power at Raytheon, stated, “This contract extension reflects the Navy’s confidence in our ability to deliver advanced, reliable, and scalable radar solutions. Our continued investment and commitment to ramping production will ensure the fleet has the sensing advantage to stay ahead of evolving threats for decades to come.”

Currently, the SPY-6 radar is deployed on two U.S. Navy ships, with installation on 11 others in various testing phases. Over the next decade, it is anticipated that SPY-6 will be fitted on over 50 U.S. Navy ships, enhancing the fleet’s detection capabilities and multi-mission readiness against emerging threats.

The SPY-6 family of radars, developed by Raytheon, draws from over a decade of design, testing, and manufacturing expertise, and has proven its efficacy through successful operational performance. The company has committed more than $800 million to upgrade its radar manufacturing facilities, significantly increasing production capacity. These enhancements position Raytheon to potentially double the output of SPY-6 by 2028, promoting long-term availability and cost-effectiveness for the Navy.

To support this critical program, Raytheon is expanding its engineering workforce in Andover. The firm is actively seeking talented individuals, experienced professionals, and veterans. Interested candidates can find more information and apply for open positions on the Raytheon careers website.
