Eviden and Thales strengthen resilient navigation capabilities for French army vehicles

Eviden and Thales have announced the integration of Thales’ Galileo PRS capability into Eviden’s P3TS1 military satellite navigation receiver, utilized by the French army.

This enhancement significantly boosts the resilience of the army’s vehicle positioning system, improving its defense against electronic warfare threats such as jamming and spoofing, while ensuring the integrity and security of positioning data in highly contested environments.

The solution will be available in two configurations. The first features the TopStar Galileo PRS Core Module, providing access to Galileo PRS signals in addition to the Galileo and GPS open-service signals. The second option combines either GPS or the TopStar Smart Receiver, which includes advanced anti-jamming capabilities. Both configurations are equipped with a high-precision clock that maintains synchronization of tactical radios, even during GNSS signal loss.

This new version of the P3TS PRS builds upon the industrialization and operational support programme entrusted to Eviden by the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA). It underscores Eviden’s expertise in integrating and deploying real-time tactical situational awareness solutions, as well as its capabilities in implementing the SICS (SCORPION Combat Information System). With two integration options for Galileo PRS, P3TS PRS can be customized to meet the operational requirements of various land platforms.

P3TS PRS contributes to European strategic autonomy by reducing reliance on GPS and addresses the armed forces’ need for sovereign and resilient solutions that can be swiftly deployed in environments where jamming and spoofing threats are rising.

“We are honored to present a more resilient version of P3TS, integrating Thales’ Galileo PRS solutions, thus enabling more secure and reliable missions in high-risk environments. P3TS PRS delivers the accuracy, reliability, resistance to jamming, and high availability that the armed forces expect,” said Bernard Payer, head of Mission-Critical Systems, Eviden, Atos Group.

“By aligning Thales’ expertise in resilient navigation with Eviden’s established proficiency, we maintain the operational capability of ground vehicles in electronic warfare scenarios. Thales is uniquely positioned as the sole developer of a Galileo PRS security module in France, offering a comprehensive range of modular GNSS receivers—an essential advantage for armed forces,” stated Florent Chauvancy, vice president Flight Avionics, Thales.

Additional Insights on P3TS

P3TS is a sovereign and resilient multi-constellation military geolocation system that provides French forces with a reliable and real-time position and synchronization crucial for military operations. It interfaces with combat information systems, including the Scorpion program’s SICS, developed by Eviden, as well as tactical radios to enhance situational awareness across the command chain.

Furthermore, P3TS extends its capabilities to dismounted soldiers and non-digitized tactical vehicles (such as logistics, domestic operations, and reconnaissance), thereby aiding in the reduction of friendly fire incidents, which is its primary objective.

P3TS is an initiative from the Technical Section of the French army (Section technique de l’armée de terre – STAT), overseen by the French Defense Procurement Agency (Délégation Générale de l’Armement – DGA), with support from the Participatory Innovation Unit of the French Defense Innovation Agency (Cellule innovation participative de l’Agence de l’innovation de défense – AID).
