Hanwha Solutions advances recycled cable materials
Hanwha Solutions has made significant strides in sustainable manufacturing with the introduction of CHBA-8241RC, a high-density polyethylene-based compound that incorporates 50% post-consumer recycled plastic content. This innovative product, developed through the company’s proprietary technology, is designed to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 34% in comparison to conventional options, while ensuring that performance standards remain intact. This advancement enables the creation of sustainable power cables without sacrificing quality or reliability.
After successfully completing product development and pilot production in 2025, Hanwha Solutions has recently wrapped up manufacturing trials and quality validation in collaboration with cable manufacturers during the first half of this year. With the effective commercialization of CHBA-8241RC, Hanwha Solutions expands its portfolio to include a wide range of products, from extra-high-voltage insulation materials to sustainable cable jacket compounds, thereby aiding in the development of lower-carbon power infrastructure.
“CHBA-8241RC has demonstrated both its quality and market potential through rigorous customer validation,” stated Carlo Scarlata, CEO of Hanwha Solutions Wire & Cable Division. “Through our recycled-content cable materials, we are committed to supporting our customers in the production of more sustainable power cables, further solidifying our reputation as a reliable materials partner within the global power infrastructure market.”
This new eco-friendly cable jacket compound underscores Hanwha Solutions’ robust experience in the development and commercialization of recycled plastic solutions. The company has received internationally recognized sustainability certifications, including the Global Recycled Standard and ISCC PLUS, for its recycled polyethylene (rPE) produced from post-consumer plastic waste.
In collaboration with customers such as LG Display and Kolmar Korea Holdings, Hanwha Solutions has broadened the application of rPE across various sectors, including electronics packaging, cosmetic containers, and industrial packaging solutions.
