THEON Unveils Game-Changing Partnership with RHEINMETALL to Launch Advanced PHYLAX Multi-Sensor System

Theon Sensors SA, a subsidiary of Theon International Plc (THEON), has strategically partnered with Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH (RHEINMETALL) to advance the development, qualification, and serial production of a cutting-edge multi-sensor electro-optic system utilizing THEON’s innovative PHYLAX technology. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in THEON’s journey into sophisticated electro-optical solutions for modern combat vehicles.

Rheinmetall, recognized as one of Europe’s leading defense groups, boasts extensive experience in vehicle optronics. They have chosen THEON’s PHYLAX system to be integrated into the stabilized electro-optical sight SEOSS 210 P, designed for their 25mm medium-caliber compact lightweight turret solutions, enhancing modern land platforms.

The partnership establishes a durable industrial and technological cooperation between Theon Sensors and Rheinmetall. This collaboration epitomizes Rheinmetall’s integrative approach to systems, combining their expertise in platforms and fire control with high-performance subsystems from specialized European suppliers, thereby fortifying a resilient European defense industrial base.

Upon successful completion of the development and qualification phases, which align with the pre-set timelines, the program is expected to transition to serial production. This will be associated with the fire control system of the Luchs 2 reconnaissance vehicle, with an initial contract value exceeding €40 million for several hundred systems. There is also the potential for further quantities as the system integrates into more vehicle platforms and turret programs.

PHYLAX is designed as a compact, stabilized electro-optic system that enhances situational awareness, reconnaissance, and target acquisition for combat vehicles. Integrating a high-definition day camera, mid-wave thermal imager, and an eye-safe laser rangefinder, PHYLAX boasts a lightweight architecture optimized for crewless turrets and remotely operated weapon stations.

This collaboration marks a substantial leap for THEON, as the company extends its range beyond widely recognized night vision systems to encompass stabilized electro-optical solutions tailored for vehicle platforms. The global demand for advanced electro-optic sensing systems for armored vehicles is increasing rapidly, as militaries worldwide seek enhanced situational awareness, surveillance, and target acquisition capabilities in modern digitalized battlefields.

Christian Hadjiminas, Founder and CEO of THEON, expressed: “This contract exemplifies THEON’s design and development ability in platform-based optronics, surpassing our initial expectations. Our growth has been fueled by targeted investments in ShockEOS and Kappa Optronics, combining internal and external design expertise, backed by our exceptional Business Development team. This synergy is set to yield more opportunities, with this contract being just the first step among many global prospects.”

To actualize its ambitious plans, THEON has commenced the construction of a new facility in Athens, the third in succession, dedicated to producing PHYLAX and other platform-based products. Expected to be operational by Q2 2027, this facility aims to satisfy rising demands for increased production capacity, with the project budgeted at around €10 million and already included in the Capex guidance for 2026-2027.

Philippe Mennicken, Deputy CEO and Business Development Director of THEON, remarked: “This agreement is a significant milestone for THEON as we venture into a rapidly expanding segment of advanced electro-optical systems for land platforms. We take pride in partnering with Rheinmetall Electronics, a globally acknowledged leader in stabilized electro-optic and fire-control technologies for armored vehicles, and we look forward to fortifying our collaboration with them on key programs like IdZ and vehicle platform developments alongside prominent European manufacturers.”

We are optimistic that our joint efforts with Rheinmetall Electronics will support future vehicle programs utilizing our PHYLAX solution. This achievement showcases THEON’s potential within this segment, but we view it merely as the beginning, as we actively pursue further opportunities where PHYLAX, along with our TALOS/TRITON product series and KAPPA’s portfolio, is highly applicable.

Timo HAAS, CEO Division Digital Systems of RHEINMETALL, and Christian Hadjiminas, Founder and CEO of THEON, signed the agreement in the presence of Dr. Christian MARTENS, CEO Business Unit Integrated Electronic Systems of RHEINMETALL, and Philippe MENNICKEN, Deputy CEO and Business Development Director of THEON.
