Rheinmetall is enhancing its technological and production capabilities in Norway with the inauguration of a new facility in Skoppum on 1 October 2026. This new site, operated by Rheinmetall Nordic AS, marks a significant step in expanding the company’s abilities in development, production, system integration, logistics, and customer support, primarily aimed at benefitting the Norwegian Armed Forces and international clients.

The facility occupies a gross floor area of 4,579 square meters and is set to house 127 employees, with a workforce of 100 at the time of opening. Additionally, there is potential for future expansion, increasing the site size to approximately 5,000 square meters. This new site is secured by a 15-year lease agreement.

It also establishes a solid foundation for the efficient management of systems throughout their life cycles. Key technological focus areas at this site include electro-optical systems, fire control systems, situational awareness solutions, weapon accessories, and other advanced defense technologies.

Morten Kjørum, CEO of Rheinmetall Nordic AS, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “The opening of our new site in Skoppum represents a significant investment in the future of Rheinmetall Nordic. It lays the foundation for greater capacity, innovation, and value creation, while also strengthening our ability to support our customers and partners. At the same time, it underlines Rheinmetall’s long-term commitment to maintaining and expanding high-tech capabilities within the Norwegian defence industry.”

Rheinmetall Nordic’s local capabilities will enhance support for the Norwegian Armed Forces, allied nations, and international partners by providing technological solutions and sustained technical support.

The opening ceremony attracted a diverse group, including representatives from the Norwegian Armed Forces, government, regional authorities, customers, industry partners, and delegates from other Rheinmetall entities across Europe. Attendees were treated to presentations, factory tours, and technology demonstrations, highlighting Rheinmetall Nordic’s capabilities and its vital role in future defense readiness, operational effectiveness, and international industrial cooperation.
