Northrop Grumman’s Raid Hunter™ 50mm Projectile Flight Test Advances Gun-Based Air Defense Capability

DAHLGREN, Va. – Sept. 16, 2026 – Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) has successfully completed an aeroballistic test of its new 50mm projectile for the Raid Hunter™, part of its Gun-Based Air Defense (GBAD) system. This test aims to validate the performance of the projectile and gather essential flight data to further enhance its development.
The projectile was fired from an XM913 Chain Gun®, producing high-fidelity data that confirmed both pre-test predictions and performance expectations. The insights gained from this testing will facilitate Northrop Grumman’s efforts to develop a new guided, proximity-fuzed 50mm round specifically designed for the Raid Hunter system.
The Raid Hunter system aims to address the increasing challenge posed by various aerial threats. It offers a scalable and cost-effective short-range defense solution, specifically engineered to counter mass mixed raids and fill critical gaps in short-range air defense capabilities.
